HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY.
A special meeting of the Foxton Horticultural and Industrial Society was held in the Council Chamber last night. About 30 members were present and Mr A. Speirs (President) occupied the chair.
The President, referring to the recent autumn show, congratulated members upon the success which had attended their efforts. H J said that exhibitors were in evidence who had not previously taken an interest in the shows, and made special reference to the splendid exhibits of visiting nurserymen.
The Secretary read a statement of receipts and expenditure, and while this showed a deficit on the Autumn Show of £ll Bs, the Society still had a substantial amount to its credit. A large number ol prizes had been awarded in classes where there was only one exhibit and it was decided to to award these. It was decided to recommend the incoming committee to amend rule 9 in the general rules for judges.
Accounts were passed for payment.
It was decided that Mrs Hamer’s prize for girls faucy work, upon which there was considerable discussion, be divided between Esmie Carroll and Jessie Cameron.
It was resolved to award Mr T. Horton’s special prize to Miss Bowe for best collection of dahlias.
The date of the Annual Meeting was fixed for Wednesday, Mav 18th.
The Secretary was voted a bonus of £j 1 os.
A vote of thanks to the Chairman concluded the meeting.
