MANAWATU NO-LICENSE EXECUTIVE COUNCIL.
A special meeting of this Council was summoned to meet at Bulls ou Friday, nth hist., at 3 p.m. Other friends and supporters of the movement were invited to be present. Apologies for absence were received from the following members of the Council ; Messrs Robinson, Smith and Whibley, (Foxton); Wechsung, Rongoteaß Gomez and Mclndoe, (Marton); and Rev. G. Frost, (Sandon). A number were prevented from attending by the heavy rain which fell, while four more, through the vagaries of a motor car, were about two hours late. In the circumstances an informal conference was held. The business for the convened meeting was: (1) To receive report of Council’s deputation seat to interview the Alliance Executive in regard to a proposal which had been made to divide the electorate and form another NoIficense Council, and (2) To hear a statement on the subject from deputies from that Executive. Rev. J. Dawson and Mr W. H. Holmes represented the Executive, and in the course of their statement made it perfectly clear that there could only be one No-License Council within the bounds of the electorate, that the Alliance Executive could ouly recognise ouc governing body and that was the present No-License Council which had been duly constituted. The deputies further stated that while the Executive could not interfere with the domestic affars of the Council they had some recommendations which they would submit to the Council for its consideration.
