BOROUGH COUNCIL

MONTHLY MEETING

The ordinary monthly meeting of the Foxton Borough Council was held in the Council Chamber last night. Present: Crs Speirs, Rimmer, Robinson, Gibbs, Levett and Stewart. Cr Adams was also present at the commencement of the meeting, but was called away. An apology for absence on account of sickness in his family, was read from the Mayor and Cr Speirs was voted to the chair. Correspondence was read from Dr. Scanned reporting a case of diphtheria in Baker Street,Foxton. From E. J. Martin, asking for return of his deposit and also for permission to charge any person claiming a dog two shillings il claimed within two days and sixpence per day lor each additional day the dog is kept, and also power to sell any dog.—Deposit to be returned and request in reference to selling dogs or making charge for keeping same granted. From Secretary of the Municipal Association of New Zealand, notifying that the biennial conference of delegates of the Associaton will be held in July, and asking Council to forward any remits it desires brought up.— Received.

From Mr R. Moore, borough solicitor, forwarding letter received from the Chief Surveyor iu which he says he cannot properly record the closing of portion of Thynne Street unless a survey is made by an authorised surveyor. Mr Moore suggested that the trausfers of the sections be made to the various section holders and forwarded to the Lands Office, and if they were accepted it would do away with the need of the survey. —lt was decided that transfers of sections in Thynne and Robinson Streets be signed by the Mayor and Crs Adams and Levettaud the borough seal be affixed to same. From the Postmaster-General, notifying that the sum of ,£i representing fees and lines collected at the Magistrate’s Court for the quarter ended December 31st had been remitted to the credit of the District Fund Account,

From Frank Gall, notifying that he had transferred his interest in the Borough Reserve, section 44, to the Foxton Bowling Club. The Inspector of Nuisances reported that the borough was in a clean condition.

The Pouudkeeper reported that during last month 14 head of cattle and 17 horses had been impounded by the ranger, and driving fees amounting to £1 is had been collected. Two bulls and one horse had also been impounded by settlers.

Accounts amounting to /.Si iSs yd were passed for payment.
