OIL FUEL.
London, March 7
The newspaper Economist says it is evident the Admiralty is convinced of the superiority of oil fuel for certain purposes. The difficulty is tne necessity of depending on foreign sources of supply. The British Empire produces 8 per cent, of the world’s petroleum. Burmah, India, Borneo, Canada, Trinidad and Barbadoes are all capable of immense future yields. In Australia and New Zealand, if accounts be true, there is enough oil to keep Britain fully supplied. Australasia is too far away to be an efficient source of supply for British industrial purposes, but could supply just what is needed for maritime purposes. It is absolutely necessary to be able to replenish the storage tanks from sources under our coutrol.
