THE FOXTON BAR.

HARBOUR MASTER’S REPORT. The following is the Harbour Master’s report on the Foxton Bar for the mouth of February : “The bar is in a very bad state, and was well to the north’ard up till the 18th of the month, there only being seven feet at high water neaps, and 9ft 6in at high water springs, then it closed up and broke out to the south’ard and that made it worse than ever, there being only 6ft at high water neaps and Sft to 9ft at high water springs. There is a fiat about % mile long and it makes it very bad for boats coming in when there is any sea. The spit abreast of the south beakons is still making out and till we get a good fresh down to cut off the south point we will continue to have a bad bar. The river is in first class order, there being plenty of water right up to Robinson’s bend. There is a narrow ridge right across the river leaving a very narrow channel right on to the Beakons, and then good water right up to the wharf. Nineteen steamers and one sailing vessel crossed inwards, and twenty steamers and one sailing vessel crossed outwards.”
