ALLEGED THEFT.

Charles Johnston, alias Sweeney, alias McGuire, alias Burke, who was arrested at Foxton by Constable Sweeney on February 23rd, and remanded to appear at Otaki was brought before Mr A, D. Thomson, S.M., at Otaki yesterday and charged with the theft of a gig and set of harness valued at the property of George Bell, Otaki, and also with the thelt of a horse the property of one, Whiting, of Wellington. After hearing the evidence for the prosecution prisoner pleaded guilty to the first charge and not guilty to the second and wascommitted to the Supreme Court for senseace on the charge of theft of the gig and harness and committed for trial oq the horse stealing charge.
