COLLISION WITH A TRAIN.
Palmerston N. Feb. 21
A train from Paekakariki collided with a covered-in van at the West Street crossing this morning. The van was occupied b} r a Syrian named Josephs, his wife, and two children. The occupants were thrown in all directions by the force of the collision. His wife and children escaped unhurt, but Josephs sustained a compound fracture of the ankle, and the horse had to be destroyed by the police immediately after the accident. The trap was demolished.
Accounts differ as to the cause of the accident. Some state that the conveyance was driven on the line in front of the train, and others ascribe it to the restlessness of the horse.
