FERRER AVENGED.
The Spanish people have not been long in signifying their loathing of Ferrer’s Clerical murderers, for complete defeat has been sustained by the reactionaries at the Communal elections. Not a single Conservative, one learns, has been returned in the Spanish capital, where 14 Liberals and a like number of members of the Republican Party have been elected to vacant seats. And, belter still, Socialists have gained a great and unprecedented success despite wide and active propagandist work on the part of their opponents. The elections are regarded as being in the nature of a general demonstration against the policy followed by the ex-Premier Senor Maura and his supporters.
Even the tigers of the modern Inquisition are powerless to kill ideas. The murdered Ferrer, representing intellectual advancement, triumphs even in the grave.—The Clarion.
