AGAINST THE STEEL TRUST.

The forces of the American Federation of Labour are organising for an attack on the Steel Trust. At present, it appears, the labourers employed by the J rust are not organised, and the present movement is avowedly for the purpose of “unionising” the employees. Goinpers and the A.F.L. are apparently up against a lough “proposition.”

Even since Mr Pierpont Morgan organised the United Stales Steel Corporation, as the trust is known, he has quietly, but none the less decidedly, ousted union workmen from employment, and insisted

upon the trust’s terms ol “open shop" being accepted by the thousands who man the various works. Relentless war has been carried on against the unions, and big re-

wards offered in the shape ot wages to skilled workers to desert their unions.

The weapon of a general strike is being relied upon to defeat Mr Morgan and the other Trust pirates. One wishes the A.F.L. success, but is not the strike an antiquated and ricketty sort of gun wherewith to blow Trusts to smithereens ?
