GOLDEN WEDDING.

Mr and Mrs J. Procter celebrated their golden wedding at their residence, Jenks Street, on Wednesday last. A short thanksgiving service was held by the vicar of All Saints’ at i p.m., after which the relatives and guests adjourned to a large marquee where a splendid repast was prepared. Mesdam.es G. Small and L. Procter were responsible for the artistic decorations. Messages of congratulations were received from relatives and friends at Featherston, Mastertou, Eltham, Picton, Nelson, Hunterville, Mararoa and Foxtou. Three wedding cakes, the gifts of Mesdames Robertson, F. and H. Procter adorned the festive board. The usual toasts and speeches were made which were duly acknowledged and responded to by Mr Procter on behalf of himself and “better half.” In the evening the local band serenaded the old couple (Mr Proctor is an old member) and this compliment was much appreciated by the assembled guests. The band also returned to Mr Proctor the old instrument that he played for many years in the old band, which was much appreciated by his family. The sons and daughters presented their parents with a handsome hand bag containing a purse of sovereigns inside, and a number of other gifts both useful and ornamental were received. Mrs Procter was the recipient of handsome bouquets from Mrs A. S. Easton (with gold ribbon) and Mr Hynes of Palmerston North, Fruit aud sweets in abundance were given by Mrs Andrews. The party was photographed by Mr Yerex as a memento of the occasion. A very happy evening was brought to a close by singing “Auld Lang Syne” aud the National Anthem at about midnight. Mr and Mrs Procter desires us to express their sincere thanks to Mr G. Langley, who kindly lent them the marquee, the brass band for their valuable services, and to all who assisted at the function and to their numerous well-wishers.
