SUDDEN DEATH.

MAJOR SAUNDERS, OF THE

CADETS

The sudden death of Major Saunders, officer in charge of the cadets on this coast, is reported from Rata under suspicious circumstances. He was a single man, over fifty years of age, and lived in a whare at Rata. It had been decided to relieve him from his position in relation to the cadets, owing to reasons of a purely personal character, and yesterday he was arrested on charges connected with those reasons. He asked permission to go to the school for some papers, and while on his way fell down and expired.
