DRAINAGE CONNECTION.
[to the editor.]
Sir,— As there are some very vague statements in circulation locally in reference to the cost of installing the drainage system into individual properties, I have taken the trouble to ascertain prices from Wellington licensed tradesmen, .including the_ head plumbing inspector, as to the cost of house connections which may be of interest to your readers at the present time. The plumbers interviewed all agreed that about £$ would cover the cost of fittings, that is to say the pan, cistern, water fittings to cistern and vent pipe. The price quoted has, of course nothing to do with the cost of connecting the w.c. with the main sewer. The cost of laying the connecting drain would, I am informed by experts, depend a good deal on the nature of the ground in which it is laid. In Wellington where it is very hard going, the cost runs from is to is 3d per foot. It is safe to say that in Foxton the cost would not exceed is per foot. This, I think, should give ratepayers some idea of the cost of connecting for drainage purposes. lam etc., — Ratepayer.
