MOUTOA DRAINAGE BOARD.

The monthly meeting of the Moutoa Drainage Board was held in the Board’s office last_ night. Present: Messrs Gower (chairman), Hammond, Easton, Carter and Robinson.

Correspondence was read from the Board’s engineer, Mr T. Ward, advising that he had attended a test of the crane which was to be hired from the Government, and was satisfied that it was capable of doing the work on the drain, but that final arrangements could not be made until the General Manager of Railways returned to Wellington.

The clerk reported that the amount to credit of the general account was £36 5s Bd, but to this must be added an amount of iSs qd to be transferred from loan account, thus making the amount available on general account ,£49 4s. After allowing for the transfer to general account, the amount standing to the credit of the loan account was ,£42 15s id. Accounts amounting to £2s 16s 4d were passed for payment. It was decided to make application to the treasury for a further advance of £3OO on account of loan.

In reference to the work proposed to be carried out during the month, Mr Carter thought that this work should be fully discussed at the meeting. The chairman explained that the overseer took his orders from the engineer, but he thought that in the absence of the engineer the overseer should be instructed to furnish a detailed report, and he moved that the overseer furnish the Board with a monthly report of the work done, with the detailed cost ol same. The motion was seconded by Mr Carter, and carried.

The arranging of rent for crane was left in the Chairman’s hands. The Moutoa Estate made an offer of five pounds for the old timber from the flood gates, which it was decided to accept on the motion of Messrs Gower and Robinson.

The question of fencing off the drain was brought up, and after some discussion, was held over until a future meeting.
