RESTRICTING THE WEIGHT OF CEREALS.

IMPORTANT TO FARMERS

The by-law at present in force restricting the weight of wheat, oats, and barley to be carried by railway in any one sack will be cancelled alter to-day, (ist February, 1910), from whi-'h dale the following by-law will come into operation; “'The maximum weight of any class of cereal or other agricultural produce contained in any one sack to be carried by railway shall be eoolb. Any sack of any class of cereal or other agricultural produce containing a greater weight than eoolb. shall be charged for at four times the ordinary rate of freight.” As will be seen, the new by-law restricts to 20olb. the weight of all classes of cereals and agricultural produce to be conveyed by railway in any one sack, and any sacks containing more than that weight (exclusive of the weight of the sack) will be charged at four times the ordinary rates.
