The positions of the teams in the local Association’s competition are as follows : Pld. Won Dost Pis. Himitangi 440 8 United 3 2 t 4 Glen Oroua 202 o Foxton 303 o
Prior to Mr Balllie leaving Foxton he made a presentation to the Foxton Club of a bat and a ball. His kindness is much appreciated by the members of the club.
S. J. Redgrave, brother of Hlmatangi’s star batsnjan and bowler, is in good form this season. He is one of the Queensland reps and in the recent match against New South Wales scored 92 and 30. The Sydney papers refer to his batting as brilliant. He also accounted for four of the opposing team’s batsmen at a cost of 38 runs in the first innings and captured one wicket for 78 in the second.
Bovve and Woods were mainly responsible for the United’s win against Foxton on Wednesday last. This was the former’s first game this season and as he is sure to improve as the season advances he will be a great acquisition to the strength of his club, f in addition to his batting he is one of the best fields in the district, and is also a fast bowler, although a trifle erratic at times.
Last year’s Austin Shield winners,Foxton, are at the bottom of the tree in this year’s competition. If they are to be in the running at all they will have to unearth another batsman of the Baillie type. Owing to the races next week there will be no cricket matches on Wednesday, but the following week Foxton are drawn to meet Himataugi at Himatangi.
