INQUEST.
At the Palmerston Hospital yesterday morning, an inquest was opened touching the death of the jockey, F. C. Whitehouse, who died at the Hospital on Tuesday morning, as the result of injuries received at the Bulls races. Mr R. Edwards, J.P., was ActingCoroner, and the jury comprised Messrs W. H. Overton (foreman), Butler, Lovejoy, Anderson, Jarrett and Hawthorne. Alter viewing the body, the inquiry was adjourned till Tuesday, nth inst. The late F. Whitehouse was a well-known rider in the North Island, and the news of his death was received with widespread regret In sporting aud other circles. His services were much sought after, particularly in cross-country events aud hurdle races, iu which he generally figured conspicuously. He rode many winners during his racing career, and among his successes were on Clovis, Rags, Hardwoijc, Roer, Bullworth, Peruvian, and a number of other horses. He was a most unfortunate rider, having met with many mishaps. At Marton meeting iu 1908 he received a nasty fall off Bullworth, which laid him aside for three months He was at one time connected with several well-known stables, and was riding for Mr Tilley, at Fordell, for some time. He lived with Mr E. Morse at Saudou at the time when Hardwork met his success, and latterly was training for Mr A. Laing at Woodville. Deceased recently settled in his new home at Green - meadows, Napier. His relatives are living at Otaki. He leaves a widow but no family.
