presentation of prizes. The preservation of prizes to children attending the Foxton State School took place yesterday afternoon. The children were assembled in the spacious quadrangle and included among those present were a number of parents and members of the school committee. The headmaster, before calling upon the Chairman of committee, • addressed the children and expressed his pleasure at . the way they had so far conducted themselves in class work. He also referred to the good feeling which existed among the staff whose sole object was the welfare of the scholars. He desired to thank the parents also for the way in which •they had co-operated with him for the children’s advancement. The Chairman (Mr Hornblow) after making a few remarks- in which he thanked all who had kindly donated funds and prizes, called upon Mr Alf. Fraser, Board member for the district, to award the prizes. Mr Fraser spoke encouragingly to the scholars, and hoped they would all enjoy their holidays and come back with renewed energy to their tasks. He referred to the st3& as one of the best under the Board, and called for cheers for them, which were heartily given. Cheers were also given for the committee and donors of prizes. The following is a list of prize winners : Highest Marks for the Year St. VI., (Dux), Myra Wanklyn. St. V., Ethel Spring. St. IV., Egar McEwen. St. 111., Christina Lett. St. 11., Marion Levett. St. L, William Johnston. Good Attendance Certificates: — First Class (full attendance during ' the year)—Flora Lacey, Jeannie McKnight, Elsie Nye, Olive Nye, Ellen Skellen, Bertie Wyeth, William Speirs, Garnet Fraser, Edgar McEwen, William M> Saveny, William McKnight. Second Class (absent not more than 5 half days).—Madge Desmond, Frank Desmond (one half day) ; Fred Pearce, Grace Pearce, Frank Wilson (2 half days); Henry Berthold, George Rough, Agnes Skelleti (3 half days) ; Violet Pearce (4 half days) ; Ivy '.Richmond (5 half days). Special prizes donated by Mr and Mrs- Fraser for regular attendance were awarded to Ellen Skellen (who has not missed a half day for four years), and William Speirs (who has attended every time the school was open for the past two years). Mrs T. Nye’s prize for attendance was awarded to Jeannie McKnight, who has attended every half day during the past two years. Handsome prizes were presented to all who gained good attendance certificates. A special prize was given to Claude Cunningham, (a little fellow in the infant room) for regular attendance. Prizes given by Mr Gabities for the best kept exercise books in St. 111. and St. IV., were won by Christina Lett, St. 111. and Gordon Feek, St.TV. The silver medal presented by Mr Gabites to the most efficient non. com. in the Cadet Corps was won by Victor Betty. Mr Jackson, (headteacher), announced that he would next year present a prize for general efficiency in each standard. The following are last year’s certificates presented yesterday;— First Class: Ellen Skellen, Wm. ' Speirs, Jeannie McKnight. Second Class; Thomas Levett, Olive Nye, Grace Pearce, Violet Pearce, Antonio Vidulich, John Vidulich, Henry Berthold.
