BOROUGH FINANCE.
At last night’s meeting of the Foxton Borough Council, the Treasurer (Mr Alf. /Fraser) reported that since tbe last monthly meeting he had paid the sum of Fund Account, and that the bank balance now stood at 4s fid. The position of the various separate accounts was as follows : General Account, 10s ud ; Cemetery Account, 2s ; Sanitation Account, /5i 17s •3d ; Interest Account, £iiß 4s 8d ; all in credit. Library Account, is id ;-—at debit. With the accounts passed last night, the bank balance would be reduced to 8s 3d, and the amount required to be met between now and the end of tbe financial year is about The treasurer does not think that the receipts for the same period will amount to more than which will leave a deficiency of on the year’s working. In the face of this, it seems almost idle to say that the most rigid economy must prevail until alter the 31st March next. The treasurer felt it his duty to recommend that one of the daymen be put off for three months, as there was no real urgency to keep two men going, until April next, when the drains will require to be cleaned out.
