THE NORTH POLE.
SERIOUS .ALLEGATIONS
AGAINST DR. COOK
New York, Dec. 9
The New York Times publishes the affidavits of Captain Loose, a retired navigator, and George Dunkle, an insurance agent, describing in detail how, under the direction of Dr. Cook, they fabricated a full set of nautical and astronomical observations such as would be taken oh a Polar journey. Suspecting that Cook needed help, Dunkle and Loose offered their aid. Cook, while not admitting that he had no observations of his own, ended by ordering a full set. The men allege that Cook promised them ,£BOO sterling, but disappeared after paying a small part of the money. The New York Times states that it has been ascertained that the men stayed at the same country inn as Cook, and offers to submit Loose's observations to the Danish scientists, who are to examine Cook's record. Mr Lonsdale, Cook's secretary, has arrived at Copenhagen.
