MONTGOMERY’S ENTERTAINMENT.

Montgomery’s New Speciality Company appeared in the Town Hall last evening, and performed to a fair audience. The programme presented was interesting and varied, comprising illustrated songs, comic items, ballads and pictures. The machine used for the cinematograph, which _is worked by Mr Bert Gilbert, is a powerful one, and the pictures were very clearly shown. .They were very much appreciated by the audience, particularly “ His Revenge,” “ Moving In,” “ The Music Teacher,” “The Removal,” and "The Fight for Love.” Songs were sung by Miss Ettie Hargood, and by Mr Edmund Montgomery, “ The Fatal Rose of Red,” and “The Cuckoo,” the latter in response to an imperative encore. Professor Parker’s performance in divesting himself of handcuffs, chains, etc., was a mystifying and interesting performance, and surprised the audience, as well as the committee who took elaborate precautions to thoroughly secure him. Mr Fred Restrieaux proved a versatile and accomplished pianiste and accompanist. The entertainment as a whole was very bright, and there cannot be said to be a dull moment in the whole performance. Mr Montgomery has decided to play again tonight. There will be a complete, change of programme, and it is hoped that there will be a bumper house.
