ARREST OF CAPTAIN KNYVETT.
Auckland, December x. A sensation was caused in local volunteeriug circles to-day when it became known that Captain F. B. Knyvett, officer commanding the No 1 Company Auckland Garrison Artillery Volunteers, had been placed under arrest for an alleged act of gross insubordination in criticising the administration of the Defence Department, and in bringing a charge against his superior officer couched in most insubordinate language. The suspension of Captain Knyvett is the culmination of the recent visit of the No. 1 Company to Wellington, and it is understood to have arisen directly from a letter forwarded to the Defence Minister, the contents of which commented on the action of Colonel Robin, Chief of the General Staff, on that occasion.
