Paris, Dec i. ■ . A corporal of Hussars stationed , at Verdun borrowed largely from members of his squadron, and fearing the consequences 'put cyanide of potassium into a mess of soup. Eighty men narrowly escaped death. Vienna, Dec. 1. Lieutenant Hofrichter’s motive in attempting to poison forty officers of the general staff, by means of samples of “nerve pure” (which turned out to contain cyanide,of potassium and provied fatal to one of the recipients) was to secure his own promotion, which a new staff appointment threatened. r
