A BIG CONFLAGRATION.

Destruction of tho Rope and Twine Works. Just before a quarter to three this afternoon, the most disastrous fire that has occurred in Foxton in recent years took place, when Messrs Win, Ross and Son, Ltd., rope and twine works were totally destroyed. Our representative interviewed Mr Alex. Ross, local manager, at the scene of the conflagration, and was informed that the works were closed for the week at 1 p.m., when everything appeared sale. As yet the origin m the fire is unknown. The books and office furniture were saved from the office which is detached from the factory. A large body of willing helpers are at work but with the strong easterly breeze their efforts are futile. We are unable to state what insurances there are bn the building, stock and plant. The works were erected a little over three years ago, and employ a large number of hands who will be thrown out of employment.
