RACING.
FEILDING MEETING. FIRST DAY. Local horses did very well at the Feilding Races. Mr Alf. Wright’s charge, Sir Antrim, made a good showing, being beaten by a head for second place in the Flying with Stan. Reid up. Mr S. Messena’s Waitapu, in the St. Andrew’s Handicap, ran well for three parts of the distance but died away towards the finish. Lord Soult received a great ovation for his win all the way in the Stakes. The Taranaki-owned Tip Toe suffered hard luck in the Kiwitea Welter, which it stood to win. It got chopped out at the start and after getting with the ruck about two furlongs from the post was shut out, A local sport had leason to curse bis luck over the Hack Hurdle event. He backed Polyanthus—and he knows a thing or two. Well, Polyanthus ran third bfit the winner Moose was disqualified on account of a cross. Coral Reef was running second. The local sport did not think the stewards would uphold the protest and sold his investment to another, only to find a little later that he didn’t possess the faith that removes mountains.
