CATHOLIC BAZAAR.

OPENED EAST NIGHT. The bazaar, which has been undertaken by local Catholics with the object of wiping off the debt on the presbytery, was formally opened last night by the Rev. Father Cognet. The interior of the hall is prettily decorated and the stalls nicely arranged. The following are the stall-holders : “Mauawatu Stall” (fancy needlework and painting), Mrs Reeve, assisted by the Misses Henderson, Waldmauu, Wrigley, Jenks, Reeve and Neylon (2) ; “ Wanganui Stall,” Mrs Dudson, assisted by Misses Wright and Hennessy; “Paramatta Stall” (refreshment booth), Mrs Hooker; “Nepean Stall” (light refreshments), Mrs Hynes; “Flower Stall,” Misses Eevett. The raffles are carefully supervised and the articles to be disposed of consist of artistic reliefcarved wardrobe, sideboard, handsome table, hand painted mirrors. The carving was executed by Miss Slattery, whose work is of a high order. Misses Neylon, K. Smith and K. Eevett are responsible for the handsome hand - painted mirrors. These beautiful works of art should attract much competition. The public are well catered for in respect to musical items. A number of girls have been coached by Miss Francis Eevett, in pretty dances, including the “ Cake Walk,” and “ Irish Washerwoman.” The graceful manner in which these young ladies acquit themselves reflects the highest credit upon their instructress. Mr Preston, whose character songs always put the audience in a good humour, assists with vocal items and there are a number of other talented vocalists. Instrumental items are supplied by an efficient orchestra under the conductorship of Mr F. C. Berthold. The music for the juvenile dances is supplied by Miss Wright and Mr Golden The bazaar will be open tonight and every night this week. A full report of the proceedings, together with Father Cognet’s opening address, will appear in our next issue.
