CLOSER SETTLEMENT.

People who have the welfare of Foxton and district at heart will learn with pleasure that Mr Newman has given notice to ask the Minister for Lauds whether he will acquire lauds for closer settlement purposes in this district. The

Minister’s reply will be awaited with interest. Now that Mr Newman has put his hand to the plough we feel sure he will not look back until he has done all that it is possible for a private member to do in this connection. If Mr Newman displays the same enterprise in this most vital subject as he has done in connection, with Harbour Board and railway matters, then the majority of his constituents in this part of the electorate will feel delighted. We hope a meeting of townspeople will confer with him on the subject when he next visits Foxton.
