ENTOMBED.
HEROES AND THE RESCUED.
STRANGE SERVICES IN A MINE.
New York, Nov. 22
The numbers of those rescued from the Cherry mine were misreported. Only 20 were rescued alive on Saturday, after a week’s entombment.
They reported that twenty-two men were probably alive in another section of the pit, which is full of gas. The search.for these 22 still continues.
Walter Waite and William Hynds (Englishmen), William Clelaud (a Scot), ond Joe Pigati (an Italian) proved themselves heroes. William Hynds induced his fleeing comrades to build themselves within a remote chamber. They were not aware how the time passed. When their food was exhausted they consumed wax matches, leather and cedar bark. William Cleland conducted a religious service twice daily.
