ALL SAINTS’ CHURCH.
. FLOWER SERVICE
Oa Sunday morning, at All Saints’ Church, a special children’s flower service was held, and the weather, though threatening, did not, fortunately, interfere with its success. Some eighty children took part in the service, each little one bringing flowers. The children were marshalled by the Rev. G. Y. Woodward and Sunday school teachers in the schoolroom, and marched from it into the Church in procession, the line being headed by Master B. Wyeth, who carried a pretty processional cross made of white flowers and greenery—the work of Mrs Woodward. The surpliced choir boys brought up the rear, two boys (Masters A. Thompson and H. Frankland) bearing a basket piled high with the floral gifts of the children. The service was conducted by the vicar, assisted by Mr Barnard, and was specially intended for the children, appropriate lessons being read and hymns for the young being sung. The sermon, too, had special reference to them and to their offerings, Mr Woodward preaching from the text, “Make me the flowers green again that are withered.” (11. Esdras V. 36.) The lusty singing of the children was a particularly pleasing feature. Yesterday morning the choicest of the flowers were forwarded to the Palmerston North Hospital, in the charge of Master W. Barber, for distribution among the wards.
