LABOUR RESOLUTIONS.
Dunedin, Nov. 18,
At a meeting of the Trades and Labour Council to-night a motion was passed expressing strong dissatisfaction with the land proposals of the Government as outlined in the financial statement, and hoping that every true Liberal in both Houses would use every legal method to prevent the proposals becoming law. A further motion was passed expressing the hope that the leasehold members would remain true to their principles, even if doing so meant the withdrawal of support from the present Ministry. A motion was also passed in favour of a referendum on the question. The Council entered a strong protest against the suggestion that the Government should subsidise a private company in establishing the sugar beet industry, believing that if the inauguration of the industry would be beneficial to the Dominion the Government should carry it on.
