THE NAVIGATION OF OUR PORT.

Mr Robt. Cobb writes ns as

follows :— 1 'ln connection with the

- coming .visit of the Minister of Jft* Marine to Foxton, I should be f pleased of an opportunity to display my patent apparatus for “deepening and straightening the channels of rivers and conserving

their banks.” The principle on . which my machine operates, is so and far reaching that, assisted by “freshets,” I claim to obtain a power equal to 500 horse, in deepening, or forming a channel in any given spot, or during the entire length of the desired distance for navigation of vessels now entering the harbour, and this, with the aid of two or at the most three men only doing the work of 500 navvies in a given time. The advantage derived from such work is obvious, as it not only removes all dangerous snags and obstructions, but confiines the current to the centre. I shall be pleased to produce my model before the reception committee on the 6th November.”
