THE FOXTON-SANDON TRAM.

A deputation from the Manawalu County Council consisting of Mr J. G. Wilson (chairman) and Cr McKenzie, waited on the Premier at Wellington on Tuesday, with regard to the Foxton-Sandon tramline. It is proposed to extend the line to Greatford, and the Council wanted to know whether, if it took the necessary steps to construct the line, the Government would give the required permission. The Premier replied that it an outline of the proposals was furnished he would have it reported on by the railway engineers, and let the deputation know the result as soon as possible.

The Mayor of Eevin (Mr B. R. Gardener), has sent out a large number of copies of the following circular, which explains itself, to the heads of local bodies:— “Gentlemen, —-I consider the time for taking united action in regard to the Levin-Greatford Railway has arrived, and that we should wait upon the Government and see what their intentions are M in respect to surveying the proposed line. I propose sending a copy of this letter to Mr Newman • M.P., and Mr Field M.P., and get them to make arrangements for the Premier to receive a deputation. I think that Devin, Foxton, Manawatu County Council, Horcwhenua' 3 ® County Council and Marton should ' be represented by two delegates from each place and as many more as can come. If you have any suggestion to make, will you kindly write me. If possible we should endeavour to meet the Government early in November, and I think that Mr Newman and Mr Field would communicate direct with each body stating the day and hour. I may also state that I am also communicating with the boroughs and Chambers of Commerce where existing in these towns. Trusting that the suggestion stated will meet your approval.”
