The ordinary meeting of the above was held last night. Present :—Messrs Pirani (chairman), Aldridge, Bennett, Dixon, Fraser, Purnell, Spurdle and Guthrie M.P.
Leave of absence to attend examination was given to T. Thomas, W. A. Curteis, W. A. Lyon, and H. R. Bowater ; and for illness to A. McCall, A. Cameron, A. M. Barron, and B. Munro,
The Board decided to open a side school at Cooper’s comer, Taikorea, if residents will give building rent free for two years. It was decided to make enquiries at Palmerston North for a site for a new infant school. The Chairman welcomed Mr F. M. Spurdle back to the table after a trip to the Old Country. Resolved that the Inspectors’ holiday to schools after exams., be discontinued after the present year.
The Board’s regulations were received back from the Depart merit, and are to be sent to the printer, and to come into force from the beginning of next year, Christmas holidays to commence on the 20th December, and schools to re-open ou Ist February. The Chief Inspector furnished the following return to the Board : —Number of pupils iu primary schools, 13,878 ; schools, 193 : male teachers, 157 ; female teachers, 191 ; uncertificated teachers, 114 ; pupil teachers, 75 : probationers, 8. Permission was given to BunnyIhorpe and Pohangina to close for the Palmerston Show.
Bank overdraft, ,£4223 ; accounts passed for payment, ,£731 18s 3d. The Board adjourned till 15th November.
