THE CAULFIELD CUP,
Caulfield Cup Day drew the biggest crowd ever known on the Caulfield course. The day was fine, but warm with a north wind, whose disagreeable effects were not felt on the course. The tracks were in fine galloping condition. No Spring meeting ever attracted a bigger gathering of interstate sportsmen, and the Flemiugtou week promises to be the biggest ever seen in Melbourne. There were 29 starters in the Caulfield Cup, which resulted as follows :-
Mr Gordonhas Klutau’s Aborigine and Mr J. C. Williamson’s Blue Book dead heat and Pendil 3.
Mr Gordonhas Kbatau, owner of Aborigine, has been very fortunate in some ot his purchases. He gave a large sum for Mooltau, but received a very quick return for his money, and afterwards disposed of the horse to his original owner for nearly as much as he paid for him. It was stated that 1200 guineas was the figure at which Aborigine became the property of Mr Gordonhas Khatau, and as the horse has earned over 1400 sovs’ by dead-heating in the Caulfield Cup, he has squared accounts for himself. It is rather a coincidence that last year Pink Un was favourite for the Caulfield Cup, and another New Zealander (Maranui) won the event, and this year Artillerie was favourite and another New Zealand-bred horse ( Aborigine) effected a deadbeat, while the favourite was unplaced. M’Lachlau, who rode Aborigine, also had the mount on Marauui last year. The time registered by Aborigine and Blue Book ou Saturday Las only once been beaten at Caulfield, viz., when Poseidon won the Caulfield Cup in 1906,
