IN BANKRUPTCY.

ESTATE OF CHARLES EASTON.

A FURTHER ADJOURN-

MENT

The adjourned meeting of creditors in the estate of Charles Easton, butcher of Foxton, was held on Thursday at the office of the D.O.A. (Mr G. J. Scott), Palmerston North.

Mr Hankins represented Mr A. S. Easton and Mr H. Cooper appeared for Messrs Murray, Roberts and Co. Creditors present were Messrs T. Andrews, G. Coley, B. G. Gower and A. S. Easton.

Bankrupt said that the only offer he could make was 5s in the £ and the book debts.

Mr Hankins offered on behalf of bankrupt’s father, 5s in the £ in cash, leaving the book debts and estate to the creditors. This was his first and final offer, and as he was a heavy loser in the bankruptcy he could do no more than this.

The creditors could not see their way clear to accept this amount, and thought it very strange that after the private meeting of creditors held some twelve months ago, there had been several creditors paid in full, and those present had not received a penny. Mr Coley said that there was great dissatisfaction at the way bankrupt’s estate had been handled. None of the machinery could be taken by the creditors, since it now belonged to Easton and Co. Bankrupt had at one time about twenty horses, and now he had none, and did not account for the missing ones. Had they been kept from the creditors ? Upon Mr Hankins’ motion it was decided to adjourn the meeting until 10,45 next Thursday in order that the Official Assignee could send out circulars to all the creditors, so they might be advised as to the necessary measures.
