EDUCATION BOARD.

ORDINARY MEETING

(Telegraph—Special to Hkraud) Wanganui, This Day.

The ordinary meeting of the above was held last night. Present :—Messrs Pirani (Chairman), Bennett, Cargill, Fraser, Purnell, and Dixon. Apologies for absence were received from Messrs Guthrie and Aldridge. The resignations of Mr James, architect, and Miss McLelland, typiste, were accepted. Leave of absence on account of sickness, was granted in five cases and other applications for leave for various causes, were dealt with. Several teachers were granted leave conditionally upon their making satisfactory arrangements to have their schools carried on during their absence.

The Board was notified of the resignation of Mr Gabites as Captain of No. 2 Company, Campbell St, and his appointment to a similar position at the Foxton school would take place when the resignation of Mr Gordon had been received.

The committee set up to deal with the Taikorea site reported that they were unanimously oi opinion that the school ought to be shifted, but as it was stated that large sections of land were to be subdivided and more children would be living near the present site during the next few months, they recommended that the proposed removal be deferred for twelve months from August last and if the attendance does not increase in the meantime the removal will then take place. Mr Cargill, one of the Board members for the northern district,

handed in his resignation, owing to his leaving the district. The Board eulogised Mr Cargill and regretted his loss. Bank overdraft £4301 ; accounts amounting to £672 6s nd were passed for payment. Mr G. Carson, of Wanganui, was congratulated upon his election to the Committee of the Wellington Training College. The Board of Governors of the Girls’ College decided to erect an assembly hall 80 x 50 and the Chairman was asked to get plans prepared to be submitted at the next meeting of the Board, on Monday, 18th Inst.
