DROWNING FATALITY.
Auckland, October 4
Mr Matthew Ramsay Mclntyre, aged 20 years, a single man, a cabinetmaker by trade, was drowned on Sunday by the capsizing of a small launch off Raugitoto Island.
Mr Mclntyre and four other men were fishing about a mile off the the shore, when he slipped, and fell overboard.
Efforts were made to rescue him by the other occupants of the boat, but the launch capsized, and all were precipitated into the water.
The four clung to the launch until she sank, then they started to swim ashore.
Some Maoris put off in a boat from the shore, and rescued all the men excepting Mr Mclntyre, who was unconscious, and never recovered.
The deceased was a sergeant in No 3 Garrison Artillery, and the best gun man in the company.
