HEMP MARKET,
The High Commissioner cabled to us as noon yesterday as follows: —The hemp market is firmer, nominally transactions light, New Zealand good fair grade on spot, per ton, 10s; New Zealand fair grade on spot, per ton, ,£26 10s ; fair current Manila on spot, per ton, £27 ; October-December shipment, New Zealand good fair grade, per ton, ,£27 ; New Zealand fair grade, per ton, ,£26 ; fair current Manila, £26 ; Manila output 30,000 bales. WOOL SALES. The High Commissioner’s cable dated Loudon, October 2nd, is as follows :—The wool sales have closed. Animated competition was maintained throughout. Stocks are small and trade good and likely to continue so. Manufacturers are in waut of supplies. The Americans are giving extreme prices for suitable lots, chiefly light conditioned crossbreds. Prospects are favourable. Estimated values are: Superior merino, is 1 l / z d to is medium, to is id ; inferior, gd to 1 id; fine crossbreds, all grades, is 2d to is q|d ; medium do., nd to is 3d; coaree do., gd to is.
