FOXTON RACING CLUB
At the annual meeting of the above club Mr John Stevens was elected patron. In acknowledging the honour Mr Stevens writes as follows to the Secretary, under date September 27th, 1909 : —“ In reply to your letter of the 17th September, by which you inform me that your club has again elected me as its patron, I desire to thank the members of the club for the honour which they have conferred, which I most highly appreciate. More especially as when the races held on the present course were called the Manawatu races I rode the winner of the Produce Stakes, Dandy, the property of the late Mr Alexander Gray. As giving some idea of the number of years since this event, I then rode Bst albs inclusive of saddle and bridle. With my best wishes for the club’s success. Yours faithfully.— John Stevens. MEETING OF STEWARDS. A meeting of the above was held in the club’s offices last night for the purpose of receiving applications for the position of caretaker of the course. Present; — Messrs W. E. Barber (chairman), Dr. Maudl, C. Hunt, F. E. Jenks, W. Howan, T. Rimmer, E. Ball, W. Gray and the secretary (Mr A. Keith).
Ten applications were received for the position, and after reducing the number to three, it was finally decided to appoint Mr A. E. Shadbolt.—lt was decided, on the motion of Dr Mandl, that the necessary additions to buildings already on the course be reported on by the Course Committee, with the addition of Messrs Jenks and Rimmer.—On the motion of Mr Howan, it was resolved that the Secretary write the Borough Council, requesting them to remove obstructions from ends of pipes leading from the gates of the course to Park Street.
