Commander Peary explains that no white man accompanied him to the Pole because he wanted the honour to himself. He found no drift there. The New York Herald is pub' lishing Dr Cook’s detailed account, which is graphically written. London, Sept. 16. Commander Peary, replying to the felicitations of Sir William Macgregor (Governor of Newfoundland), telegraphed : “Your congratulations are deeply appreciated. Your interest proved a mascot.” Large audiences are witnessing the cinematagroph reproductions of Lieut. Shackleton’s trip at the Alhambra and other music balls. A Labrador mail boat reports that Commander Peary stated at Bartlett that be had decided to make an expedition to the South Pole. He has already collected furs and other necessary equipment. The New York correspondent of the Daily Mail says that Dr. Cook will get a magnificient reception on landing there, largely owing to Commander Peary’s reiterated denunciations of him.
