NONPAREIL CYCLE ROAD RACE.
WON BY J. COULTER
The Nonpareil Championship Road Race, the final of a series of three, promoted by the Nonpareil Cycle Coy., was run at Palmerston on Wednesday afternoon, under fairly favourable weather conditions. The starting point was from the corner of Raugitikei Line and Featherstou Street, and the course proceeded along Featherston Street, up Frits? Street, round Boundary Road, Bunnythorpe Line, Bunnythorpe-Kairauga Road and back by Rangitikei Line to starling point, this course had to be covered three times a total distance of just on 37 miles. The following competitors went to the post: H. Henderson and J. Coulter, scr ; R. Jones, 3mm ; A. Williams, W, Day, A. Donald, 6min ; A. Schlager, J. Cooksley, Bmin ; W. Bradey, A. Danielson, lomin ; G. Bradey, K. Graham, L. Aiken, t2min; W Howell, J. Meehan, R. H. Mills, limit i6min. J. Coulter was the first to pass the winning post, being an easy winner aud also .gaining fastest time by brain., completing the distance in ihr 47mm 24360. The tact of the scratch man securing first aud fastest time, is a remarkable feat aud great credit is due to Coulter, who has proved himself the champion of all champion cyclists in this district. R. Jones secured second place and also second fastest time in ihr 53mm xysec. Third place was won by J. Cooksley, time being ahrs arnin 47Sec. H. Henderson, who until Bunnythorpe was riding so strongly, became suddenly ill aud and struggled along on his own to the finish, even then securing .fourth place aud third fastest time, ihr sbraiu aosec. J. Coulter, who for the first time was riding a Nonpareil racing cycle, fitted with Dunlop tyres, expressed the opinion that it was the fastest and most reliable cycle he had ever ridden, this, together with Henderson’s recommendation proves the superiority of the famous Nonpareil Cycles, The promoters wish to express their thanks to Mr J. Collingwood, who has so kindly and accurately officiated as handicapper in the three past races, the accurate judgment shown has been fully appreciated by all competitors. Special credit is also due to Dr J. W. O’Brien (referee), and Messrs J. B. Gerrand and C. McIlroy (timekeepers).
