FOXTON ATHLETIC CLUB.
An event that is always looked forward to with pleasure by residents, not only of Foxton, but of the surrounding districts, is the Foxton Athletic Club’s annual sports gathering, held in Victoria Park, on the King’s Birthday., The programme for their ninth annual gathering appears in this issue, Liberal prize money is offered in all events, and the Committee have catered for all classes of athletes. Recognising that running and cycling races alone are, to the ordinary spectator, a little on the slow side, the Committee have included in .this, year’s programme a number of novel events, so that from an onlooker’s point of view, the gathering should .be of a most interesting nature. Cyclists and pedestrians are as usual well catered for, and the Committee anticipate that this year they will receive a record number o£ entries. The chief cycling event is the Foxton wheel race, two miles, for which cash prizes amounting to are offered. The other cycling events are : One mile, for prizes amounting to £ 6, and the one and a-half mile, £ B. The chief of. the running events is as usual the Grand Handicap of three distances, the cash prizes for which amount to £lB, and there are also trophies amounting to ißs- Longdistance men are catered for by a half-mile and a one mile event for prizes of £8 each. There are also several local events for which liberal prize money is offered. The Club also draw attention to the big 120 yards Sheffield Handicap of £4O, which it is proposed to run on the evening of December 2nd, and the bicycle road race to be held on the morning of that date.
