WORKS COMMITTEE’S REPORT.
The above Committee met on Thursday, 12th August, at the Triangle, at 10 a.m. Present: The Mayor, Crs Gibbs, Ross, Rimmer and Speirs. The Mayor asked that permission be given him to take out present overgrown shrubs from Triangle, in order that he might turf same and plant smaller ornamental shrubs, as a memento of his term of office, which was agreed to. The Committee then visited Thynne Street, and inspected samethe Town Clerk was instructed to write to Mr Rockel, calling upon him to at once remove spoil placed by him upon the road, back to a distance of 42ft from fence on south side of street. It was decided to place some gravel down at the entrance to R. N. Speirs’ timber yard when he repaired the broken crossing. The Committee then adjourned to Purcell Street, and after inspecting same decided to form a footpath on north side from Patrick Street to Johnston Street in same manner as that decided upon for Ladies’ Mile, etc. The Committee held a meeting in the Mayor’s room on Friday, 1 oth September, at 11.30 a.m., when there were present: The Mayor, Crs Ross, Rimmer,
Speirs and Coley. In reference to * outlet for Reeves Street, it was decided that the Public Works Committee wait upon the residents of Reeves Street, and see if they were willing to purchase an additional 30ft of the road frontage, and if so to recommend to the Council that such purchase money be devoted to the proposed outlet to Johnston Street.
