THE FOXTON BAR.
HARBOURMASTER’S REPORT.
The following is the harbourmaster's report on the local bar for month of August:—During the month _ the depth of water on the Manawatu Bar has been xo feet at high water spring tides, and 7ft 6ins at high water, neap tides. During the month the bar has worked slightly south and I have taken soundings ou three occasions, finding more water on the bar than on the crossings in the river. During the first part of the month we had a < considerable flood, which swept most of the buoys out of position, some going to sea and being lost, but when the fresh subsided we replaced all the buoys and marks. Since then another flood has come down and shifted them and I am s waiting for the fresh to go down in order to allow me to replace them. Until the river settles it is impossible to define a channel.
We have had a record month in spite of drawbacks, there being 30 arrivals and 31 departures.
