DAIRY FACTORY WORKERS.
Stratford, Thursday. As a result of a sitting of the Concilation Council, presided over by Commissioner T. Harle Giles, in connection with the demands made by the Taranaki Dairy Factory Workers’ Union, recommendations satisfactory both to workers and to employers were adopted unanimously. Great pleasure was expressed by both sides at the successful outcome of the commissioner’s intervention.
In conversation with a Post reporter this morning, Mr T. Harle Giles, Conciliation Commissioner, said, apropos of the dispute, that he had never come across a dispute fought so toughly and yet with such . good feeling and absence of personalities. The representatives of both sides had battled strenuously on behalf of their respective interests, blit had approached the question with an earnest desire to consider the matters at issue with due regard to the responsibility of the position, and the far-reaching effect it would have on Taranaki’s leading industry.
