FOOTBALL.

On Saturday next the local “reps” meet Horowhenua at Levin. Any of the selected players unable to make the trip are requested to immediately advise the Secretary. The return match will be played on the local racecourse on the following Saturday.

At Sydney on Saturday the Wallabies (who toured Great Britain last year as amateurs, but who have recently joined the ranks of the professionals) were defeated by the Kangaroos, under Northern Union rules, by 29 points to 26.

The annual match between the representatives of Canterbury and Wellington was played on Lancaster Park, Christchurch, on Saturday, before a large crowd of spectators. The Wellington forwards were stronger than those of Canterbury, and it was mainly due to them that Wellington secured their win. The game ended Wellington eleven points, Canterbury six.

At Dunedin on Saturday the Sydney University team defeated the New Zealand University bv 15 points (three tries, one converted, and a potted goal) to five.

Wellington B defeated Horowhenua at Levin, by 13 points to three.

The semi-final for the Abraham Cup, between Kia Toa (the present holders) and Old Boys, was played at Palmerston on Saturday, and resulted in a win for Old Boys by 12 points to three. The final, Old Boys v. Palmerston, will be played on Saturday week.
