NATIVE CONCERT.

The Native concert held at Moutoa was an unqualified success although it was postponed from the ist to the 3rd, owing to the state of the weather. Despite the short notice given of the postponement, the public mustered in full force, and were rewarded with a capital programme, which included hakas, songs, pois, recitations and instrumental items. The programme opened with a pianolorte duet by the Misses A. and K. Walden, followed by poi, single (encored), song. “Queen of the Earth,” Mr Cook; liaka (encored); song, “The Village Blacksmith,” Mr Sass ; poi, double (encored) ; recitation, “Pat’s Mistake,” Mr Rimmer; haka (encored) ; cornet solo, “Come Back to Krin,” Mr Rimmer, accompanied by Miss Cook (piano); haka (repeated): recitation, “Lord Ullin’s Daughter,” Mr Arapere ; song, “Deathless Army,” Mr Cook, which was greatly appreciated. At this juncture Mr Royal gave a brief outline of the history of the old Maori Church, the details cf same being supplied by Mr Hihira MoroatL A Native song was contributed to the evening’s programme, composed by Messrs G. Rauhihi and Royal, being translated into English by the latter. Before the conclusion of the items, Mr Royal, on behalf of the Natives, passed a vote of thanks to the following for their generous assistance ; Mr Gardiner for use of Hall, Miss Cook for officiating as pianist, Miss Smith for decorations, Misses Walden and Messrs Cook, Rimmer, and Sass for contributions to programme, and Mr Hornblow for donation towards funds. At the close of the concert programme, the floor was prepared for dancing. Mr Gardiner officiated as M.C., the music being supplied by Messrs Cochran (piano), Rimmer (cornet) and Sass (violin). After supper the Misses M. and H. Royal entertained those present with a “cake walk,” which was much appreciated. Dancing terminated at an early hour, everyone going home thoroughly satisfied with the enjoyable evert. Foxtonians will be delighted to learn that the above successful concert is to be repeated in the Public Hall, on Thursday night week, the 16th . inst, when a bumper house is bound to greet the entertainers.
