A CURIOUS THEORY About EARTHQUAKES. “ Tlie cause of earthquakes, is siu ’’ This is the way the great preacher explained these terrifying convulsions of the earth. Just fancy the destruction of Messina and lioggio as resulting from violation of moral law. It is more likely that a good deal of siu results from earthquakes. But Hannah More, the great authoress, came pretty close to the truth when she said “ The cause of a deal of sin, is bile ’’! That bit of wisdom and opinion we can understand easily. Bile poisons tbe blood —and poisoned, impure blood poisons the brain. The brain is the organ of the mind and senses. All the earthquakes that ever shook this wicked world have not done as much harm to human beings as ie pone every year by sleepy stomachs and lazy livers. Generals have lost battles, workmen have lost good jobs husbands and wives bare quarrelled, because of “ a touch of liver complaint.” That ugly force called biliousness could “ breakup a majority in the House of Commons.” “From my youth I was afflicted with poor health and suffered much from Indigestion and Asthma. The asthma was particularly bad, in the hot steamy weather that prevails Queensland in the summer rainy season. My breathing was so difficult that I felt like suffocation.
