SCHOOL COMMITTEE.
The ordinary meeting" of the Fox ton School Committee was held in the old school house on Thursday evening. Present: Messrs Hornblow (chairman), Rev. Aitken, Bullard, Henderson, Read, Levett and Speirs. Correspondence was read from the Education Board re the transfer of Mr W. Adams (headmaster) from Foxton to Mangaweka, and Mr Jackson from Mangaweka to Foxton ; also the appointment of Mr Gabites as first-assistant to the local school. The appointments to take place from September ist. Correspondence was read from the Revs, Messrs Mairs and Aitken, asking that the school hours be extended, in order to provide for religious instruction between the hours of 9 and 9.30 a.m., on two mornings of the week.—lt was resolved that the Committee could not accede to the request, but that the school could be utilised for religious instruction before or after schools hours.
Accounts were passed for payment.
Messrs Speirs and J. T. Levett were appointed visitors for the
month. Several other minor matters were discussed, and the meeting rose.
