DRUIDS’ BALL.
The success of the above plain and fancy dress ball, held in the Public Hall on Tuesday night, was marred by the very inclement weather. Visitors were expected to be present from all parts of the district, but the elements blocked them, as well as a large number of local people, from attending. Those who did attend, however, spent a most enjoyable time and at least from a social point of view the function was a great success. The brethren of the local lodge spared no pains to make the interior of the hall look nice and the decorations were very tasteful. The floor was in fair order and the music (by Messrs Berlhold and sou) was first-class. The catering was in the hands of Messrs Evans Bros., and left nothing to be desired. Dr. Adams carried out the duties of M.C. very efficiently. The special prize for the best fancy dress was awarded to Mrs Dalhousie who appeared as a courier for “ The Press Hank.” She wore a neat costume of black material on which appeared pages of the. paper represented printed in gold, also a display poster in the same lettering setting forth the contents of the current issue. Miss V. Walls, neatly attired as daffodil, was the runner up. Others who appeared in fancy costume were : Miss A. Walls, “Cornin’ thro’Rye’’ ; Miss G. Lambess, “Spanish Dancer” ; Mrs S. Wright, “Dutch Girl” ; Miss Neville, “Topsy”; and Mr R. Howard who created much amusement as “Sambo.” It is hoped that the Druids will have better luck with their function next year as one and all worked so indefatigably to ensure the success of the affair.
