AWAHOU (21) v. RONGOTFA (0).
This match was played on the racecourse on Saturday, before a fair number of spectators. Rongotea won the toss and playing with the wind behind them kept Awahou very busy for the first spell. With the exception of a goal kicked from a rolling ball by a Rougotea player and which was afterwards disallowed by the referee no score resulted in the first spell, Rongotea having the best of it. Playing with the wind in the second spell Awahou quickly began to score, Andresen following up a high punt by Rore touched down near the post, Marsh converting. Saveli who was following up well throughout scored two more tries both from high punts by Rore, and both of which were converted by Marsh. Shortly after the last score by Saveli Awahou was awarded a free-kick close to Rongotea’s line from which a goal was registered. With about 10 minutes to go J. Joe secured another try as the result of a scramble near Rongotea’s line, the shot at goal was unsuccessful. Shortly before the finish of the game Wallace, an Awahou player had the misfortune to break his collar bone. The game ended 21 to nil. Dr. Adams refereed.
